More babies means more knitting, and people seem to be having babies every time I turn around! My cousin's baby shower was this past weekend, and I made her three things: a blanket, a hat, and a wee knitted lightsaber.

1. A blanket, to match their nursery decor (yellow and navy blue, apparently involving sailboats). It's about 36" across.

IMG_3389

2. A hat, out of the same light blue yarn I used for the blanket. It's super stretchy and will fit the baby for a long time as he grows. I didn't take a picture (finished it the day before the shower!), but here's a pic of the same hat I made in a different yarn, for a shower for one of Rogue's coworkers. (These hats are super-quick to knit. Rogue emailed me the day before the shower and asked if I could make something. I had it done by the time he was home.)

3. A wee knitted lightsaber, from the pattern that Nori designed. This was for my cousin's husband, who LOVES Star Wars. I didn't know it when I was making the lightsaber, but he's already bought a Yoda costume for the baby for next Halloween. So that should work out well.

Technical details (yarn, needle size, pattern, etc) are all on my Ravelry project pages, if you're interested.

Hey look, another finished object! (That I started in October, but nevermind that.)

It's a baby chicken hat!

IMG_3366 . IMG_3365

The story is this: my BFF from grad school collects chickens. (Er, figurines and stuff like that, not actual live chickens.) She and her husband had their first baby in October, so of course I had to make their little boy a wee chicken hat. The earflap hat pattern generator worked great! I decided not to put ties on the earflaps since I worry about young babies and string-type things.

Main yarn is KnitPicks Shine Sport in Cream, knit on size 6 circs. The orange and red yarn is just scraps of Cotton Classic, the yarn I use for my Baby Jayne hats. I double-crocheted the comb on the top and made a garter-stitch bias square for the beak, then sewed it on. The eyes are black and white felt that are sewn on. (I thought about making some bobbles for googly eyes, but was defeated by my lack of black and white cotton yarn.) I'm really not too sure about the eye placement, but I could only fiddle with it for so long. :-P For the photos, it's being modeled by one of our Darth Vader snow globes covered in a scrap piece of black wool.

I hope they like it, and that it fits!

I made stuff for people for Christmas this year! In point of fact, I made:
  • A plush Weighted Companion Cube for my brother
  • A hat knitted with BITCHIN' FLAMES for my brother
  • A lace neckwarmer for my mama
  • A new Christmas stocking for Rogue
Many pictures and more details are under the cut to spare your flists )

GLEE! Today Tree and I co-hosted Debby's baby shower (much longer post coming on that, I promise!) and I actually finished all my knitting projects in time! Usually the kid's three or four months old by the time I actually finish my baby knitting. ;-)

They of course received a baby Jayne hat, which I didn't take a picture of since I've made like eight of them now (but it looked pretty much like this, only with less orange, more yellow).

I also gave them a blanket of my own devising, which was so much fun to knit (even if I did have to frog the entire thing after getting halfway through, the first time around!). I call it Baby Formulas and I am really, really happy with it:

Yay! Now that that's done, it's onto the bandwagon with me-- I'm making a (mini) Clapotis!

(PS Hugh Jackman I LOVE YOUUUUUUU.)

Ingredients for a cozy Saturday:

1) Lots and lots of yarn
2) Football on TV (Go Titans, kick the Ravens' asses!)
3) Flannel PJs
4) A quilt to wrap around myself

Yay yay yay.

ETA: All these pickup truck commercials are really weird. Especially the one that I think is making fun of the "man step" that Ford has on theirs? I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. Don't buy their truck because they make it easier to get in? Dear clinging-to-life American car companies, I don't think this is going to suddenly raise your sales...

ETA2: OMFG, this Cardinals-Panthers game has just become *painful* to watch. I mean, I want Arizona to win (go Western teams!), but five six Carolina turnovers-- FIVE interceptions-- man, I just feel bad for Carolina at this point.

Time once again for the posting of "what I knitted people for Christmas":

click for a pretty shawl and some fuzzy feet )

And that's it! Working on a new pair of fuzzy feet for me right now-- my Jayne slippers finally bit the dust, and it is freaking cold in our house. (I bought new flannel PJs today, yay!!! They are red with white snowflakes and mmmmmm cozy.)
